Kevin Lacey Wins IPPT South Major

21 April 2002 - Louisville, KY - Cincinnati Touring Pro Kevin Lacey left little on the table Sunday as he feasted on drying carpets in Louisville to win the IPPT South Major. Lacey aced early and often and left little doubt who was the man to beat as he opened up a 3 stroke lead on 5 players after the first 18 holes. Then came the knock out punch that tied the course record. A 21 in the second round to open up a 10 stroke lead over Dave Nutini. Lacey followed that with a third round 27 to post a 36 under par 72 at the half way point. Three putters, Brandon Yee, Jeff Garrison and Tom Gross were 11 shots back in second place with 83's.

Lacey then shot a 25, followed by a 28 and 27 to finish the tournament at 152, a new Indiana Tour Record for a 6 round tournament. Club Pro Jim Payne of Louisville, Kentucky moved through the field in the final three rounds to finish second at 53 under par 163. Touring Pro Tom Gross of Columbus, Indiana finished third with a 51 under par 165. All three players passed the previous 6 round record of 166 held by Charlie Greenwalt of Indianapolis. Zach Smith Wins IPPT South Major (APA Division) 21 April 2002 - Louisville, KY - In the APA Division, Zach Smith of Indianapolis carded the victory with a 50 under par 166. Smith shot rounds of 26-28-30-28-29 and 25 to win the event by 5 strokes over Nate Nichols of Edinburgh. Josh Garrison won the Novice Division with a 16 under par 200. Mandy Garrison finished second. |
