8 August 2009 - Springfield, OH - The Southern Ohio Open was the second of three Great Lakes Tour events held this weekend at the Springfield, OH course. For the first two rounds, there was a close battle between three players. In the end, a scorching final round of 24 by
Kevin Lacey gave him the victory by five strokes over second round leader
James Weber and
Dave Nutini.
James Weber fired an opening round 26 to take the early lead by one over Kevin Lacey and two over Dave Nutini. In the second round, James was still able to hold onto the lead with a 36 hole score of 55. Dave Nutini was one shot back in his quest to win back-to-back tournaments on the day while Kevin slipped to two shots off the pace. Kevin's 24, the low round of the day, enabled him to an easy victory in the end.
John Ventura finished in 4th with 90 while the final cash spot was at 93.
In the amateur division,
John Kropinak was able to overcome an opening round of 32 to win by four shots over
Matt Male. John shot rounds of 32, 28 and 29 for a 54 hole total of 89. Matt finished second for the second time this weekend while Don Niznik of Lakewood, OH captured the last cash spot at 98.
The Great Lakes Tour concludes the tournaments this weekend with the 72 hole Switzer Classic scheduled for 10 AM on Sunday.
